Day-One Dalkeith Entry Procedures | 2023 -2024
Dear Parents and Guardians,
On behalf of our entire staff at Dalkeith Elementary, we are happy to welcome you to the 2023-2024 academic school year.
All EMSB schools are reopening for Grades 1-6 on August 30th, 2023.
To avoid confusion on the first day, entry will be staggered slightly as it was in previous years.
Please read the following carefully and I apologize for its length.
DAY 1 GRADES 1 – 6 STAGGERED ENTRY PROCEDURE

***Bus pick-up time will be printed on passes 9:00 is arrival at school.
Daycare Students:
For day one and until further notice, the ONLY ENTRANCE FOR DAYCARE WILL BE THE FAR DOOR ON GONCOURT. Remember, goodbyes should be said outside before the students enter the building.
If you are sending your child in on the bus on Day One:
Students get on the bus at their assigned stop and we will help them disembark once the busses arrive to school at their regular time of 9:00. Please ensure that their bus pass has been secured to the outside of their backpacks. ***Please check your emails as this may come electronically.
Walkers (If you are bringing your child(ren) in on Day One):
Entry will be FROM THE BACK SCHOOLYARD between 9:15 and 9:30 (15-30 min AFTER the busses). You can wait with your child in the schoolyard for our first day back. N.B. this is for “Day 1” ONLY.
Afterwards, walker entry will be from the main Goncourt Door at 9:00 am and you must wait with your child OUTSIDE until that time.
For Pre-K, Kindergarten and our Closed Classrooms:
You already received (or will shortly) a phone call directly from your child’s teacher on either to explain their first day procedures. If you have not yet been contacted, we ask you contact the school to ensure that we have your correct contact information. Your child’s progressive entry is/was scheduled by appointment (either the 30th, 31st or 1st) and classes for them will begin on Tuesday, September 5th, 2023.
Important information regarding cafeteria service:
Starting in the 2023-2024 school year, Dalkeith Elementary will be using the EMSB ‘Mini-Bistro’ to provide hot meal service. Unfortunately, our school cafeteria was closed in June of last school year permanently. As this is a TRANSITION year for EVERYONE a separate information package will be sent home in the next few days regarding ordering procedures. IMPORTANT; there will be no food services available at the school until the ‘Mini-Bistro’ service opens. As such, please send your child(ren) in with a bagged lunch for the first few weeks. If all goes to plan, the service should be up and running by the 11th of September. Furthermore, our Breakfast Club Canada (BCC) snack program will begin after Labour Day on Tuesday, September 5th, 2023. So, please send them in with a snack too for the first few days.
Let’s hope that, moving forward, we can look back on the lessons and struggles of the past few years and know we can meet the challenges of the next year stronger and wiser for them. I am a firm believer that communication between home and school is essential.
