EMSB returns to class and kicks off 25th anniversary
The 2023-24 academic year marks the 25th anniversary since the Quebec government recreated public school boards along linguistic, rather than religious lines. The English Montreal School Board looks forward to celebrating this milestone with stakeholders.
This anniversary was formally marked on the first day of classes at Carlyle Elementary School in TMR. EMSB Chair Joe Ortona, Director General Nick Katalifos, Assistant Directors General Jack Chadirjian and Pelagia Nickoletopoulos, Commissioner Ellie Israel and Regional Director Jimmy Giannacopoulos attended a special school assembly. They were joined by Mayor Peter Malouf and Liberal MNA for Mount Royal-Outremont Michelle Setlakwe.
Carlyle is a true EMSB success story. In 2012 the school was put up for closure due to low enrolment. A pledge to relaunch as an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program convinced the Council of Commissioners to keep it open and the pupil population has continued to grow ever since.
