Work-Oriented Training Pathway (WOTP)
The Work-Oriented Training Pathway (WOTP) is a program during which students spend three days per week in class and two days in a work-study program. Some possible work-study scenarios involve: learning how to fix and maintain bikes; working in a hardware store or retail environment; working in a community centre or after-school program; developing food preparation skills in a restaurant setting and lots more!
Students spend two to three days a week in a variety of work experiences and, upon successful completion of the program, receive a Prework Training Certificate from Ministère de l’ Éducation et Enseignement supérieur. This certificate will attest to their employability skills. Students will experience five broad areas of learning which are related to real life situations including:
- Health & Well-Being,
- Career Planning & Entrepreneurship,
- Environmental Awareness & Consumer Rights & Responsibilities,
- Media Literacy and Citizenship & Community Life
and include courses such as French as a Second Language, English Language Arts, Social Sciences, Science & Technology, Arts, Personal Development and Career Development.
Program Eligibility
- To be eligible for the program the student must meet the following requirements:
- 15 years of age or older
- Interview with school administration
- Academic requirements are looked at on a case-by-case basis.
What's Next After WOTP?
Upon completion of the year in WOTP, students may choose to return to a regular high school program, although they may opt for direct entry into the job market. Whatever the choice, our students move forward having the sense of achievement that comes with acquiring Ministry certification. They develop greater maturity as well as a wealth of experience, leaving them better prepared for their future endeavors.
Pre-Work Program
The Pre-Work Program is a program within the Work-Oriented Training Pathway to all students 15 years of age as of September 30th of the current academic year. This gives the students the opportunity to explore different fields of work as well as getting them ready to enter the work force.
This 3-year work study program prepares students for the workforce by incorporating basic academics both in school and in the business community.
Successful candidates will receive a Ministry Certification for the Pre-Work Program.
